Mojo indeed. This big 10" bladed Ontario Spec Plus Model 5 (SP) shows great promise for your wilderness and defensive needs. Forget CQB, this is a "FQB" (Faraway Quarter Battle") knife; long enough for some stand off capability and high levels of intimidation (and capability!). The long blade with its longer moment arm can produce high velocity cuts. But the SP5 will have equal or better prowess in the woods as a survival blade. It's 1/4" thick epoxy-coated, well-shaped Bowie style clip blade is made of flat ground (love that) 1095 steel and looks to be a good chopper, splitter, and all-around cutting tool. ). The 1095 steel will have to be cared for to prevent rust in high moisture climes but should offer good edge holding and toughness. Its Kraton polymer (called Gnvory®) handle is adequately long, not overly sticky, and will be comfortable during impact-inducing strikes. A deep bottom finger quillon should prevent forward hand slippage. The flat grind should baton well through wood well. The big blade is carried in another Cordura-leather design that seems tough and durable but lacks quick attachment capability (std for this price point). If all this sounds like a lot of knife it is but the amazing part is you can get the Ontario SP5, at least NOW, for under $50. This is the advantage of an overseas-produced knife that is the product of good quality control. The SP5 would be a suitable deployment blade for soldiers, adventurous civilians, or any Good Guy needing the impressive capabilities of BIG blade. Great value, seemingly great knife.     Nutnfancy Likability Scale: Solid 9 out of 10 *** Stay subscribed to see Nutnfancys testing of the Ontario SP5 knife in his Rocky Mountain Knife Clinic. • hello veri, i called ontario knife store this am and got very good customer service. unfortunately 2 of the knives i ordered are on backorder and the entire order is delayed till mid march. not a big deal. i just wanted to know what was going on and now i do. i guess someone on the web side dropped the ball in responding to my emails. thank you for your response as well. a big thanks to NUTN' and you for all the hard work you do. i really enjoy his vids and life POU.

  • @hoodrat61 Thanks for the update, hoodrat. If you get any more info on your order, I'd love to hear about it. --- Veri

  • is anyone else having problems with ontario-knife-store? i ordered and paid for 3 knives on 2-4-11 and have not got them yet. i emailed 2 times asking about the order but was not answered by them. i guess i'll give it a little more time then try to get my money back if they dont sent my order.

  • @hoodrat61 Have you tried calling them to press the issue? Its only been two weeks since your initial order, but you might be able to get a tracking number or some info about what's going on. -- Veri

  • so the SP5 vs the SP10

AND the heavy bowie from Ka-Bar.

i think we need a vs review

  • According to your Info this is an overseas made knife, which I think is incorrect. It is made in the USA? I think people might be mis-led by that comment.

  • Have used this same knife for years. The blade is easy to sharpen and it just keeps on going. Not real fond of the handle but what the hell for the price U cannot go wrong..

  • Aw right!! I've got this knife, love it. Got it at a gun show; sold a Glock field knife and a Cold Steel machete and bought this bad beauty. Pleased to see it's got the Nut'n seal of approval.

  • Brought this blade along on a 3 day backpacking trip up the North Fork of the American River. It hacked through 3/4" branches with one pass easily! Mine however did not come very sharp, but the steel sharpens with ease.

  • @GCreble10 6 to one half a dozen to the other, but i really love the Heavy bowies handle.

  • Please respond.

Which is better for the money? The Large Heavy Bowie by Ka-Bar, or, the SP 5? I like the both of them and they are around the same price. I just need user advice.

    Thanks.

  • Yeah I am a 10-inch blade fan.

  • @varun009 I think it's because he doesn't have the time

  • @nutnfancy veri, why do you answer your brother's comments?

  • fantastic review!....i attached this beast to my flak jacket while in Iraq in 2003....it survived 42 straight days of combat, sandstorms, and not to mention the sheer size of this monster intimidated wannabe terrorists back into their mud huts..i still have it over 7 years later and its still has the orginal edge...so yeah, deployment knife? Absolutely!

  • hey nutnfancy, what do you like better the ontario sp10 or the kabar large heavy bowie?
