more innig and bruellend??? wtf? I'm german and have to wonder about your vocabulary :D maybe in foreign countries "bruellend" is a positive adjective for singers, but if i translate it to english it's just "screaming", and Herrmann Prey should come out of his grave and talk to you if you say he screams.
I think Herrmann Prey sings the Dichterliebe better than Fischer Disklau. FiDi sings some of the pieces even sloppy.

Hermann Prey + Schumann = soft velvet, dark chocolat, glittering gold!

It's simply marvellous ! Hermann Prey is my best inspiring model for my singing practice. I have learnt the emotion, the tenderness and the honnesty in singing with him. Please put all the recordings you have with him ! To answer the questions about the intonation and the color of his voice for the lied, i think that people have just to open their minds and accept the differences between the interpretations.

I really have to disagree. The "deinem" at 2:32 is pretty perfect, as long as there's such a thing
called "perfectness" because there are always different interpretations. Also the sustaining through the
"L" is not just common but very good way of singing it. I have recordings of Schreier, Dieskau, Wunderlich, etc. and they're all doing it like this. Maybe it's not your style, but it doesn't mean he fails in any kind...

@AverageDoughnut - Sometimes details do not allow you to see the big picture.

Der beste Bariton nach Dieskau!

And greatness is really in the details.

Thank you for posting this! He is obviously a good vocalist. I think this video is good bordering on great, but he makes a couple pretty basic mistakes here. Every time he sings a diphthong or liquid consonant he does it atrociously...
For instance at 2:32 the word deinem.. its "ah" and "ee" and he gets right to the "ee" diminishing the clarity of the word. Right after it he destroys the word Nachtigall by sustaining through the "L". He's so close to great, but he misses that mark just barely

@Baldurat To answer your question, I think you are the only one. His voice is so bright that it fits perfectly the lied repertoire.

his high notes are just miraculous!

I don't know if any DVD is recorded. I have this from an old video tape - recorded from Danish television. Ekstragrim.
