Video of The Wave at Geauga Lake from August 1987. It was removed after the 2000 season when Six Flags rebranded the park and built another wave pool.

  • I'm pretty sure they didn't actually remove it when they closed it, they just walled around so you couldn't see that section of the park anymore from the ground but from the Big Dipper there was a point where you could see The Wave and what was left of Turtle Beach all deserted and nasty filled with green algae. I remember thinking they either need to redo that section or take the stuff out because that kind of view isn't good for a park and then they closed after that season.

  • @PianoShapedObject - This is the old Wave pool that was where Kidzworks was at GL. It as closed in 1999 and covered up. The wave pool you are referring to was installed by Six Flags and abandoned when Cedar Fair took over the park in 2004.

  • The Wave. One word : AWESOME

After the water had been calm for a while you started to get nervous, knowing that any second, the bell would go off. Then....*BING* and out of nowhere this HUGE wave comes rolling towards you at high speed. Everyone tries to swim for it... but it's no use. All the people would get knocked over like dominoes.

The bottom of the pool was rough like sandpaper - I remember getting bowled over and dragged along the bottom many times. It was SO worth it. I miss it.

  • I remember that buzzer going off and its a race to the best spot. Then when the wave is coming your like oh shit. Then after the wave you have to figure out where you are bleeding from. Skinned knees, bloody nose. Loved it!

  • When I was a kid I hated to go anywhere near those big drains on the sides. I used to get sucked up against the grates all the time. I did find 18 bucks floating around in there once though

  • @JscottK2006 lol come outta there with skinned knees and a big ole smile

  • @coasterdadGL Yeah, I guess that was the other one. I only went there once I think when it was Six Flags. Most of my time there was in the 80's and early 90's and then we were there the last 2 seasons.

  • @JscottK2006 LOLOL so true.

  • How do you have this footage!? I was probably in there! Amazing!

I want to find an image of the painting where the wave came out. As I remember, it was a big angry faced wave...

  • Thanks for posting this classic footage!

  • i would love to get in that pool.

  • @JscottK2006 LMAO... So true.. And don't forget if you get shot back and water gets in your mouth, the taste of pee.. LMAO...
