Hi everyone just a quick update on my solar air heater, a few changes, but all in all very pleased with it, outside temperature 15 to 17 degress today, temperature going into the house 42 degrees +, house feels very warm, actually too warm, no more turning on boiler for heating, while there is sunshine
Hi Hello from France
Really interesting your video, congratulations
You only use a polycarbonate panel,
for the solar air heater? Thank you for your reply and help.
Good luck for your work.

Love the video and all the updates I have never tried anything like this. I am a single parent and would love to try this project with my children. I think I understand the basic box structure. However, I was wondering if there were any plans for this project with dimensions such as space between the top of the box and size of the holes in the bottom of the cans. Also I live in Virginia Beach, VA. Can the panel be a distance away from the house? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

@Axbent OK, I guess the air needs a reasonalbe amt of time in the collector tubes to collect the energy, and it can do that by either increasing the length of the tubes/pipes or slowing the air down by not using a fan, but maby the natural flow of the air rising upwards, if its possible for how someones system was built. Just more ideas.

15 C or F?

@trailkeeper i suggest also using the kind of twised tubes used in boilers, they will make the contact area greater.

Optimal angle is whatever your latitude is + 10 degrees. for example if you are at 35 degrees north......... Your panel should be a 45 degree angle to the ground. This gives the best exposure to the sun.

it's sucked in from the bottom (floor level) of the house via a tube. A fan on the top of the panel makes the air flow around.

How does air get into the panel?

Hi first of all very well done.I'd just like to give some suggestions. If you had an exit at low level in side the room feeding the heat box you would not need a fan as you would create convection, the cold air would be drawn into the box heat up and rise to the top and into your room. Also try insulating the copper pipe.Really well done what a great result

Why would you use copper pipe?? Why wouldn't you use insulated duct work?? You might have warm air but it is only going to heat up the window seal. Try using like 4" duct and using a return and supply. Return low and supply high. Don't try to warm up the outside air. I think that would work a lot better for you. Nice work though!!
