I love this song and I love the Phantom, but really, he's being very devious at this point. She thinks he's her dead father (she's very confused!) but when she realises he's the Phantom, she backs off. She loves him but she's terrified of him.

She's a lost little girl who never got over the death of her father and she needs someone safe and steady to look after her for the rest of her days. She just can't cope with Erik, even though she loves him. It's a very sad story!
