The white one is the "skinny-pig" and the brown one is the "baldwin-guinea-pig". Skinny-pigs have some hair in their snout & feet while baldwin-guinea-pigs are completely bald.

Skinny-pigs are bald when they are born and they have only little hair in their snout & feet but baldwin-guinea-pigs born with full hair and start to loose their hair on the 2nd day after they born and by 2 months they will become completely bald.

Skinny-pigs are little bigger than baldwin-guinea-pigs.

Visit the link below to learn how to make your own big "Coroplast" cage for skinny pigs just under $$35 and it will last a very long time too. Coroplast is a material that is plastic+cardboard combined into one material which will last for a long time and it is water and many chemical proof.

  • Im not convinced by bald animals, be its guineas or mice or rats. The fur serves them a purpose, keeping them warm in the cooler weather, providing some protection from UV rays, providing nesting material for pregnant mothers. Seems a selfish human act to deliberately breed a bald animal just because we think it looks nice.

I imagine these guys cant go outside and enjoy the sunshine, for risk of getting burnt and skin cancer. My guys love to lie in the sun and feel the fresh air.

  • so cute!

  • @noodlechild666 I got my Skinny from a lab by my school that was going to test on him if no one took him off their hands.

My little one loves the sun, but I give it to him in doses. They can go out side, provided there is always an option for shade, and if you watch them carefully.

If an owner who is experienced/knows what they're doing, they can live happy, joyful lives.

Of course, they are hypoallergenic as well. My boyfriend misses cuddling with my girls. When I got my skinny, he was so happy

  • Skinnies are bred in laboratory, albinos are used for skin research. they are a spontanous mutation bred in a lab. in Canada, the different colours are bred in by breeders.

    less/less working hairshafts

    Gen. code HRhr (like 2²)

Baldwins are a spontanous mutation from 2 solid golden-agoutis, who bred under care of owner Carol Miller. The hair starts falling out between 2days due to disfunct of hairshafts. and 1week. they have tiny a bit of hair on heels and have eyelashes.

    The gen. code: hrhr
