Great episode. Should be required viewing for those who think that that being transgender is a choice, or that it is something caused by parents. Or that supportive parents are practicing "child abuse" by allowing transgender behavior. The fact is, these parents are acting under the advice of experts which include pediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrist and social workers. All agree that allowing free gender expression is the healthiest route, with some studies showing that over 40% of transgender children have suicidal ideations. If you disagree, show me ONE PEER-REVIEWED STUDY that proves otherwise. Show me one study showing that forcing gender conformity is healthy, or even possible. Educate yourself on the case of David Reimer.

  • I'm still trying to figure out if I want to transition or not :(

but I love to see the world growing and being educated on Transgendered People ^_^

puts a smile on my face and warms my heart ^_^

  • @TalkGoth2010 As recently as the 90's, trans people even faced discrimination from gays. Many found them embarrassing and said they confirmed stereotypes. Some didn't want them in the gay politics or pride parades, and protested having "T" in "LGBT." Even today, some gays protest, "We're not all limp wristed" or "We're not all hairdressers" -- as if they're inherently bad. You don't hear them say, "We're not all neat!" Sadly., like homophobia, transphobia is based on sexism.

Don't rush the decision because it's a lifetime commitment that takes a lot of initial effort and money. Ask a qualified professional who has no vested interest in see you transition. And talk to other trans people, but be wary of activists who are more concerned about the politics than you. Good luck!

  • i wana know that transgender guy :)

  • @locababyx Which one? The cute blonde with piercing blue eyes and irrepressible smile? :)

  • Ok im Gay but i do have Transphobic tendancies, don't get me wrong i really support the struggle yous go through but i feel it is dangerous and un-necessary to go through the surgery. i have no problem if they only dress like the gender they want to be and if minor surgery is needed to make that happen i support it but the genitals should be left as are. but hey i really do admire yous and it may cause me discomfort but who am i to judge you if thats who you are be the best you you can be :)

  • @TheGawjusGangsta

Your aversion is with the surgery -- not the person who's had/having the surgery, so you're not transphobic. That's pretty normal, especially for gay men. After all, one of the things you like most about men is their penis.

In many cultures, there is something sacred about the genitals, heart and brain. That's why most of us won't eat these organs. It's also why sex crimes are given a special category, and why torturers often target the genitals.

  • To homophobes and trans-phobes...

Don't bother posting or bible-thumping here unless you can back your opinions with facts and studies. If you don't like what's in this video or channel, just don't watch. BUT ... if you have peer-reviewed data showing that the actions of these parents are harmful, please do post andlet's discuss.

  • @Yesica1993 I agree, you seem upset at being ignored. Maye you should try presenting some actual studies and experts instead of ranting. That's probably why your posts are all blocked with this "This comment has received too many negative votes."

  • @Yesica1993 Wow, what an amazingly useless and pointless comment. Clearly, you're just upset that he's ignoring you. What don't you stay in your own channel? Is it because you have no subscribers or interest in your views?

  • Are people jumping on board because an opposition to transgenders has popped up? Or are we seeing CHILDREN making an adult choice? Why is it that so many people can get behind this 7 year old making, in my opinion an adult choice, but are opposed to another child being punished in an adult manner for an adult crime. Why do we say "there children, they don't know any better" when somthing bad happens, but if no one gets hurt "there just expressing them self."

  • @Yesica1993 Because your disagreement lies in being misinformed. We're moving towards a time where many people value actual facts on issues like this not bias preconceived opinions. It has nothing to do with 'demanding tolerance'.

  • It used to unsettle me when hearing about the surgery, specifically the removal of the genitals. I remember calling it "the ultimate form of self mutilation." My outlook has evolved since then. I think it is a serious decision to make but not fundamentally different from other plastic surgery's that are widely accepted. This girl is very lucky to have been born into accepting and educated parents.

  • I think it's odd they concentrated on hair for a bit there. Hair has nothing to do with gender! Look at all the guys with long hair and girls with short hair! The rest was good!

  • Awesome episode! I love how Anderson approaches this in a very intelligent manner. Kudos.
