James Kalm is cruising around the nabs and captures a couple of interesting local happenings, most notably the de-installation of the controversial New Museum exhibition "Skin Fruit". Rolling north-west from the Bowery, we visit the gem like mini-retrospective "Trim" and Other Works 1967-2010 by a personal favorite, Jim Nutt. This show features three recent "portrait" paintings and a group of related drawings. But the real treat is a small but choice selection of amazing work from the past forty years. As one of the leading members of the Chicago group "Harry Who" Nutt has sustained one of the most consistent and provocative careers within the eccentric figurative mode.

  • if only eenkjet could met jim in person. he is one of the most knowleable artist you will ever meet and he wouldn't last a second in a debate with him. ask his former students. many whom are now famous ny and la artist.

  • eenkjet is dead..thank God! Mr. Nutt has and blazed his way through and now firmly planted. No one can take that away.

  • eenkjet, I totally disagree with you, but I really do love someone who can communicate.

Mixed emotions! I have no patience with people who don't like something yet cannot tell one why they don't like it. So, bully for you.

  • Oh, James! you are a trip: the red square" patch where her heart should go", and "there's certainly a lot of twisted sexual innuendo there". Too funny! You know I have just about had it with the artists who feel they are being importuned when you ask them questions. I really find it insulting. If one wants to remain anonymous, don't have a show! The work is great, but I wish I never laid eyes on the artist. I hope young artists like Trudy Benson and Jimmy Miracle keep their amiability.

  • @kdavisification

disparaging. i'm a hard to please cantankerous workaholic artist. if you're going to show in a high profile art gallery, don't bring grilled cheese sandwiches knowing they are up for critique by those that love art and weep for it's future. illustrators and paint stylists copy-cats and avant garde offenders all clamoring for the spotlight without asking the question, "do i deserve to call myself an artist". and thank you!!!

  • tx kate .........is becoming a classic ;)

  • @eenkjet How does it benefit you to make disparaging remarks about successful artists? By the way I sincerely wish you every success with your art. Keith

  • Thanks James. Best -

  • @kdavisification i'm still about 3years away from releasing work from my sacred articles series. but instead of needing to make a quit trip to hobby lobby for some supplies, it's requiring 12 years of r&d, over $100,000 in modified printing equipment, and some actual balls. whether i ever shadow a new york gallery will be neither this or that, i plan on showing my work primarily in far eastern and arab markets.
