A component of the YWCA Santa Monica / Westside's Girl Central Program, "Girls In Action Leadership" fosters an environment in which a diverse group of girls can build their personal strengths and decision-making abilities while exploring meaningful possibilities for their futures. . GIAs six core components are: Self-Esteem/Empowerment, Communications, Healthy Lifestyles, Career Development, Cultural Awareness and Community Connection. Including 45 minutes of academic assistance per session, GIA activities include an annual Mother/Daughter night, rock-climbing excursions, volunteering at the Westside Food Bank, Planned Parenthood workshops, public forums during the YWCAs Week Without Violence, career panels, college tours, on-campus racial justice activities, and more.
