This video shows how NOT to install a window. Installing a window it the way he shows in this video will void your warranty. It is very important to caulk the rough opening all the way around before you place the new window into position. If you want to see a video that shows a window actually being installed correctly check out TSI labs

Nice to see real people just going for it. Seems like it's almost illegal to work on your own house these days.

Thanks so much. I've been agonizing over replacing a few windows. All other info I found made it too simple or too overcomplicated.

No he is not a professional but he probably did just a good of a job. 95% of the "professionals" out there would have cut corners that will eventually result in the need for repairs within 5-10 years.
He did it himself and a very good job he did.
BTW the tax credit is there to help those who otherwise could not afford to make there home better. This 1 window would have cost him about $600 for a professional to do, he saved about $400.00.
Question? Does the foam sealer eventually expand enough to warp a vinyl window from the outside in and interfere with opening and closing the windows. How is it holding up so far?

Hi, I used the window foam, and it expands enough to seal the gap. It doesnt interfere with opening and closing the window. Also, its been 9 months since i installed all 12 windows at my place. So far it has hold up against 4 hail storms, many T-storm warning, heavy rains and the crazy snow storm in Oklahoma. It still close and open as smooth as before, no water leaks, and no drafts. :)

Hey fella. nice job on your window. I am a window installer by trade and you did a fine job for your first try. I would recommend screwing the top screws first so it won't fall out of the hole. Also if you put your top screws in vertically you can adjust the level of your window by either tightening or loosening the left and right side screws to either raise or lower each side independently. Just saves you wrestling with it when you're by yourself. Good luck with the next ones

thx, thats really encouraging. I did the easier windows, and I will let a window professional do the harder ones (e.g. Large ones with cement around them). It was a fun experience, and saved a little. I also got $1120 back from 2009 taxes.

i saw you first tried to screw window upside down-yob also could have removed sashes out from the inside without removing the glass or saw z alling them.i could have done the whole job in 30 minutes-VINYL-LITE WINDOW FACTORY VA.
