The First World War- A Tribute

This is a tribute to all those poor souls who fought and died during WWI using historical footage and voice recordings mostly from the documentaries Forgotten Voices of the Great War and Voices of the Great war. A special thank you to KingofClapham for providing me some footage from his documentary. I know it is still a couple months till memorial day but I decided to make this video never the less. From the Germans to the French. From the Turks to the Aussies. The British, The Canadians, the Americans, the Russians, the Austrians and everyone else.

Least we forget.

World War I has been described as the event by which Europe agreed to commit suicide, and I think that is correct. Most of the old monarchies and empires were taken out. As Stephen Ambrose pointed out, in many ways, "the world war" began in 1914, had a lengthy armistice from 1918 to 1939, and did not end until 1945. The primary victors of the great European civil war were two non-European nations: the United States and the USSR. Among the victors, Britain lost the most.

@mindspring57 Well if you count all the conflicts that occurred between 1918 and 1939 many of which pitted the axis/central powers and their ideologies against those of the future allied powers IE Italy invading Ethiopia, Japan invading China, The Spanish Civil War, The Russian Civil War, Armenian–Azerbaijani War, Silesian Uprisings ect ect there wasn't much of an armistice as it was a toned down but still very global conflict.

By the way, the image at 1:43 is of the Spanish Civil War, not World War One. The Spanish Civil War happened 20 years after WW1.

I belive you are thinking of a different picture. The one at 1:43 was taken during WWI. There is a famous picture that is similar to that one of a loyalist being shot during the Spanish Civil War though. The picture is on wiki I belive. I think that is the one you are thinking of.

Nice to see someone who remembers this war- it's pretty shocking to me that nobody remembers WWI, seeing as it's the major cause of WWII and it should have been a warning to the world of what could happen... This is a well-made video, I like how it transitions.

@LaikaCameBack I agree and disagree with what you say I disagree because they would not really be there, and they would not think of the memories that they experienced. I'm glad I was not there, rest in peace all those who died in both WWI and WWII. had not World War I occurred, nothing would be like now.

Two years ago, Harry Patch died. He was the last infantry solider alive that had fought in the trenches and mud of WWI. Earlier this year, Claude Stanley Choules of the Australian navy died. The last known man to have been in active service.

Since it started in England in 1919, this will be the FIRST ever Remembrance day that has NO surviving WWI veterans still alive anywhere. Of all the millions who put on a uniform and went to that war almost 100 years ago, the last one has finally fallen.
