2009 RTNDA National Award Winning submission. Edward R. Murrow Award Tornado Event of May 24, 2009 Gary England Director of Meteorology KWTV News 9 Oklahoma City, OK
The reason that you say the name of the person that you are speaking to, is because there are a # of people listening, not just the peeps that are talking, so when you address one person, and ask a question, you dont have 10 people attempting to answer all at the same time over the air. good example, vid at around 1:21 when Gary tells them to "keep talking", he didnt address anyone so they both spoke at the same time, keeping in mind that people in the field may not be able to hear each other.
diggyba, I totally agree. I do think that these so called "journalists" readily kiss his azz, thinking that perhaps Gary will "bless" them in return on air or something. Sure sounds like azz kissing in some way shape or form to me. Yucch.
ya... I think he must be obsessed with gary or somethin.. I mean, gary is the weather guru but theres no need to say his name 50 times. That was amazing footage!!!
Great vid, and God Bless Gary England...he's saved a LOT of lives over the years. But wtf....why do these on -air reporters seem to feel it's SOOO necessary to repeat the name Gary over and over and over?? Good grief. Journalists. Figures.

Its not about being a but kisser, a large number of people talking at the same time can come across as panic, and you dont want that on the air.
