Richard claimed never to have seen Pebble Mill. I met them in the early 1990's and asked him!

Agreed without a doubt, I don't know why they axed it.
I used to watch it everyday when I came home from school for my lunch.

Richard and Judy SO copied Pebble Mill for This Morning, even down to doing the whole show from the foyer, with the general public walking past outside. ITVs This Morning owes everthing to Pebble Mill. The BBC were the first pioneers of the daytime magazine/chat show!

Pebble Mill went before the BBC announced their cutbacks. its simply because it and ATV centre are suffering from asbestos and concrete cancer.

Thanks for that.

Strangely enough I've just been discussing the problems of asbestos in old buildings. By 'ATV centre' I take it you mean Elstree? A lot of work has been carried out at TVC - which should be clear by now.

Asbestos is only harmful if it is disturbed; certainly not in voids' etc. where it never sees the light of day.

no, I mean ATV Birmingham.

ATV Elstree became Central TV Borehamwood in 1982 and was then sold to the Beeb in August 1984 when Central moved their main production facilities up north to Niottingham.

Thanks for making that clear.

The purchase of Elstree gave us EastEnder's (dead-ender's or double-ender's if you prefer).

To us here: Nottingham is a very long way SOUTH - lol!

well its south of where I live as well, but I say they moved North because Nottingham is North of Elstree.

Pebble Mill proved you didn't have to be a London based media lovey to be popular and topical.
