This scene replayed itself in my mind for years. And I finally saw it again here for the first time. It made me cry. Thank you for sharing this memorable moment.

This is not a Black, or African American scene, his is a Human scene.
There is not a Son who has not had to make this speech to his Father.
And then when that Son is a Father, he has to hear his own words thrown back at him.
And that Father, when he thinks it through, should be proud.

OMG !!!!!
You cut off before Sidney gives one of the best lines in cinema history .
To his father says :
"You think of yourself as a colored man, I think of myself ......as a man "
Bravo Sidney !!!!!! He is in two of my favorite movies of all time , this one and
--To Sir with Love-- Sidney Poitier is one of the best actors ever !!!

@hlywdplayer While I understand the whole point of the movie was all about race, I found this particular scene to be about more than just race. Race doesn't even matter if we don't know who we are as individuals...to our own parents. In that context, I hope you can now understand why I choose to only use this 3 minutes, six seconds of the movie. However, Ii you're still unsatisfied, you're always free to upload the parts of the movie you want to see. :-)

He had every right to disagree with his father and do what he wanted to do, that is not even open for discussion. But, he was way out of line to tell his father to "SHUT UP!" And I do way OUT OF LINE!

@Duane: I agree with you on "shut up" part. Again Respect. We will always "owe" our parents that.
