The Dalai Lama is demanding a probe into the hacking of Tibetan websites. Just this weekend a think tank in Canada released a report saying that the computers of foreign governments and critics of the Chinese Communist Party have been compromised.
China has rejected the report suggesting it may be involved in hacking computer networks to spy on exiled Tibetans and foreign governments.

But evidence to the contrary is turning up, and the Dalai Lama wants to get to the bottom of the issue.

Canadian researchers report that among the infiltrated sites were embassies, foreign ministries and government offices, especially across southeast and south Asia.

One computer located in the Dalai Lamas private office was infected with a virus capable of phoning home, or stealing information such as email lists with thousands of names, and other documents, and then sending it to those in control of the virus.

On one occasion the Dalai Lama says Chinese authorities lodged a protest with India against a person's visa application even before he had applied for it. The person had only communicated his wish to visit India with the Dalai Lama's office by email.

[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Leader in Exile]:
"Some individuals, they want to see me and want to correspond with our concerned officials, then that information reach in China's hand. So before that particular person ask for an Indian Visa, the Chinese have already protest to the Indian government, such things happened, so therefore our people asked the........internet specialist. So, I don't ...so here also you have to investigate, a thorough investigation."

The study was conducted by a private think tank and a research center affiliated with the international studies school at the University of Toronto.

Whoever may be responsible, the report details a far-reaching campaign to infiltrate the computer networks of China's critics and their allies.

  • @ Wishingforfreedom

Is talking about hacking politics ?

Did the great Trijang Rinpoche have a computer that was being hacked ?

  • chinese citizens themselves are capable of hacking into foriegn government computers. the US department of defense cyber attack was caused be hundreads of chinese hackers sitting at their home computers. china could have paid these guys.

  • Politics is a samsaric construct - and is the very oppasite to that which leads to liberation. If he must enguage with politics, so be it, but a spiritual leader should not be talking politics from the teaching throne it confuses people and leads them deeper into samsaric suffering. His teacher, The great Trijang Rinpoche, was also in the same situation, but he never ever talked politics! He was a true Lama. This is why I say The Dalai Lama is a politician in a monk's clothing.

  • He teaches mostly compassion and peace.

But yeah he has political opinions about China ruling over his home land. But at least he aint forcing anybody, he's just talking.

  • My original point still stands - why is a so called spiritual man talking politics from the teaching throne instead of teaching compassion. Again I say - when will the world wake up and see that this man is a politician with worldly concerns dressed in a monk's clothing...

  • "He casts a shadow over Buddhism."

a benevolent shadow whereas cpc-ruled china casts ominous clouds wherever it goes, a threat to freedom, justice and human dignity.

who but the chinese could use "death vans", not seen since the nazis?
