This video shows a successful experiment making charcloth inside of a wood gasification stove. Instead of filling the stove with small chunks of wood, it was filled with cotton terrycloth squares, covered with a layer of wood shavings, and top-lit to initiate the gasification process. This is not necessarily a better way to make charcloth...just an alternative method.

  • Nice job. This same basic idea occured to me once after haveing a camp fire, and seeing the grass burnt outside of the fire ring. I collected up all the black grass, sure enough it took a spark right off. Never thought about natural materials for charing before that.
