  • For those of you who dont know what a second year bird looks like this is not it.. This is a first year bird.

  • I have to comment on this. The bird surely has a juvenile plumage. However, the bird was filmed in March (2008). Since goshawks do not have fledged chicks in March in Sweden, the bird was born in the previous year (2007), i.e. it is a second-year bird.

  • For those of you that don't understand Swedish, I can tell you that this 2nd year goshawk was trapped at a pheasant farm some 40 kms outside of Stockholm. This farm legally traps a number of goshawks each year, and guys like Tommy (that holds the bird) come and pick the birds up and release them far from the precious pheasants. This release was done at Järvafältet, a birding spot close to downtown Stockholm.

  • Thanks for the comment. It surely is an Acciptier gentilis (goshawk, habicht, duvhök), I just mixed up the scientific name of the sparrowhak (sperber).

  • @andiO3 its a protected species in sweden, those that dont own chickens, pheasents and other poultry dont want them close to there animals but the goshawk being protected means they must be relocated and never killed.

  • why the hell there are so much photographers? xD whats happend to this hawk that you make such trouble for him?^^

  • I agree !! It´s a first year bird !!
