In a way it's funny that it was Bruce Springsteen's Streets of Philadelphia which came into my mind, although 1900 never leaves the ship in the film.
But for him the ship was like a town he lived in, so the deck of the ship can be in that case also like the road he passed so many times.

unrealistic in a way. of course I understand 1900 and his explanation why he doesn't want to go away from the ship. but as his friend I wouldn't have let him stay in this ship even after the long speech. really, it's kind of sad he exploded :D

Nicely done :) I finally saw this film some 6 months ago and really enjoyed it, well the ending was kinda...awful :( I agree with your description!
