On an August, 2009 Salkantay Trek, I captured on video how the Peru cloud forest was being destroyed by a road being built near a lodge owned by Umberts' Mountain Lodges of Peru. Our guide indicated that Umberts was responsible for this road. This is not the case. Umberts has tried to stop construction of this road to preserve the pristine Salkantay environment. I apologize for this misunderstanding. The local government is building this road without the cooperation of Umberts. Umberts sponsors many projects to preserve the environment not destroy it.
I agree with you mate we have to take care with this beautiful place! check my channel to see more about Trails to machu picchu

Please consider that we run and sponsor the ONLY environmental protection organization in the area: the MLP Eco-Team; as well as the only Social Responsibility organization in the area: YANAPANA PERU.
The road is being built and is fully sponsored by the regional government in favor of the Totora and Yanama communities. Since Day 1, we have condemned this road.
We kindly ask you to honor these facts and correct your statements publicly, which is what we consider just.
Thank you.

Dear Friend: My name is Enrique Umbert and I am the Manager of Mountain Lodges of Peru. I am shocked to hear the claims in your video regarding the responsibility and participation of my company in the construction of the mentioned road, which has been in planning for almost 10 years; our company has only existed for 3 years. We DO NOT supported (in fact, we pose the ONLY opposition) this venture nor any related activity. The existence of this road diminishes the eco-experience we endorse.
