Here's a sample of the kind of album that we made during my upcoming "Make Ahead Travel Journal" series on my UStream channel. You could also use this same set of instructions to make your own everyday journal, similar to the SMASH or Ditto books that are so popular right now.

For a longer video explanation of what you'll need for the "Make Ahead Travel Journal", check out this UStream recording: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/14982660

To download and print the free graph and ledger paper for the travel journal mentioned in the recordings, check out this site: http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/

To see how to use the BIA to add additional pages and memorabilia to a book once it is bound, check out this video at the 2:45 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnBmWzGkIEc

In the video, you'll notice that I've bound my book with the Bind-It-All. No need to panic if you don't have a BIA at home. You can have you book bound for you at lots of places around town ~ Staples, Office Depot, FedEx Office, etc. Or you can just punch holes and use rings or a ribbon binding. It's totally up to you!

Missing the UStreams? I am live every Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and again from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on my UStream Channel: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/live-on-the-scrap-beach

All times are Eastern USA {Miami/New York}. To convert to your time zone, click here: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

  • Love the idea! But how did you put in the rings for the binder? Is it a punch?

  • @Lucyrose07 I used a binding machine designed for scrapbooking called the Bind-It-All. It is manufactured by a company called Zutter & it both punches the holes and sets the wires. I like it a lot!

  • Beautiful! Love the idea. Now I am going to have to go through all of my memento boxes! One quick question, I see that the book is all ready bound but has room for more travels in the back, do you open the binding each time to place items in like books, pamphlets, menus, etc? I love my BIA, but find it hard to re-open & close the binding over & over again. Thanks so much for sharing! Blessings, JJ

  • @JJsJoyfulCreations No, I don't ever open the binding once I make the book. I have a way of adding the papers and photos to the binding without opening the coils by snipping the edge of the paper so I can sort of "snap in" the papers. It's hard to describe, but you can see how I do it in my "Welcome Home" album at 2 minutes and 45 seconds into the video. There's a link to the "Welcome Home" video in this video's description. I hope that helps!

  • i love this idea... i keep everything and it doesn't seem possible/practical to put it all with a scrapbook page, especially since i stopped doing 12x12 layouts. but really with the brochures and special booklets, it's a great idea. i love how it's totally random too. oh, i want to do this. how wide are your binding rings? great way to use that paper too. i really love that bread bag with the fish! thanks for the idea! will check it out. :)

  • @tshernjpan I love the randomness of it & all the different kinds of textures and items in the book. I always collect memorabilia with the intention of it making its way onto a scrapbook page, but it never seems to happen ~ this was a good way to have it all out in an easy to look through format. It's SO FUN to look through the book because of how random it is, too, I think. I used the 1.25" o-wires for my BIA on this book ~ the biggest Zutter makes for the BIA.

  • -3 it! :)

  • Like all of your other ideas, I simply LOVE this. I have ordered the K & Co Smash stuff as a sort of jumping off place, but I have stuff like this from all my trips. This makes me want SO BAD to get a bind-it-all ... Thanks so much for sharing your awesome ideas!!!

  • @desdichaedo Understand completely. I actually have a punch from Stampin Up! that punches the holes that snap in. Just hoping maybe you had a way to open the book that I had not seen. Thanks again for sharing! Look forward to the next video! Blessings, JJ :0)
