I dont see how your purchase of a new car that gets 4mpg better would truly make that much of a difference. If I slightly changed my driving habits, I can guarantee you my GMC Envoy would get 4mpg better than it does.

New cars often get worse gas mileage than what is claimed because the engine doesn't become as efficient as possible until it has been broken in.
You can do many things, along with changing your driving habits, to increase your Envoy's efficiency.

I live in the south, vehicles hardly ever rust down here, no salt on the roads in winter.
These vehicles didn't deserve their fate.
