First trip down the track. Tires were cold, hooked an immediate right. Hotter burnout cured the problem.

  • I just had to say one thing...the hatred between the chevy and ford boys is the worst out there...(chevy guy here)

and to have a ford guy slap you around about a chevy...bwahahaha

    kudos my american driving friend!

also...wanted to add...our economy sucks...and you drive an IMPORT!!

    YOU ARE THE TERRORIST!!!

  • that makes no sense...why would you want to go with a weak ass 8:1 compression 350...the most powerful engine that was offered that year was rated at a measly 175hp...id take a destroked 400 small block anyday

  • @vans1107 I ran a 144 B&M on a stock goodwrench motor for 5 years. It hauled ass. Had long tube headers and 4.10 gear with a 750 3310 Holley. She sure beat the hell out of a lot of cars. Never had problems. Never ran a 471, but had a 250 on a 396/ 55 chevy.

  • @GetsumJ so true, smog motors sucked horsecock. We had a 500 caddy, put it in a chevy half ton and it worked like pure shit, a stock vortec 350 or even a tbi would have worked better

  • @vans1107 You and everyone else.

  • @GetsumJ casting numbers 3970010 1970 350 350hp Z-28 and the corvette the same year was the high water mark. but let us not forget the factory 327 375 hp. it all to do with heads and compression. sbc 1.5 hp per cubic inch can be had.

  • @vans1107 I think the rear end was like a 2.52 or something disgraceful too hahah, but im betting he got rid of all that shit

  • @vans1107 I don't disagree what you're saying. And I am used to the discussions. I was only identifying the correct ratings in 79, and pointing out that a lower compression ratio can be a good thing in many cases. Especially if you are using pump gas and not Racing engines burning methanol and ethanol. If your using 10:1 - 12:1 and burning 87-93 octane, get ready for an engine to load up.

  • @GetsumJ ok you're obviously a freak when it comes to remembering casting numbers, RPO numbers and HP ratings if you can pull that off..but regardless the kid that made the initial comment is an idiot so i was proving him wrong..there would be no reason to put a stock 350 with all cast internals from the smog era in this car, if you want low compression then you build a motor that can handle the cylinder pressure produced by boost, you don't just throw a 471 on a stock motor

  • @vans1107 No, the most powerful 350 was a Corvette rated at 240, a Z-28 Rated at 220 and the Rally Sport at 195. That 175 hp rating was for the base 5.7 L Code(350) before the RPOs. 14016379 was the casting code for the HO 5.7s as opposed to the 3970014 for the standard castings. And there are many cases you would want lower compression, starting with running a 471 blower.
