one interesting source i read, is that canadians for the most part were against slavery from the beginning. most that even had slaves, were british and french aristocrats, and that in many cases, wealthy canadian business men, would often times buy slaves at a market than soon legalize their release.

Yes, you're absolutely right. It was much easier for people to recognize the evil of slavery when their economy didn't depend on it.

and the south could of probably had a better economy if they had let them be equal because it gets moreloyalty to your country, better morale and they will become healthier workers.

@dadecountyhustler305 Because it was nothing like the same. The number of slaves in Canada was comparatively insignificant. They were never a major source of agricultural or industrial labour. I'm not saying people here were angels; just that a slave economy never took root because it never made sense.

That said, it DID make sense in other parts of the Empire, and even so, it was abolished across the Empire over a generation before the US Civil War. So it wasn't the same.

@dadecountyhustler305 I'd like to argue that it wasn't 100% the same. In Canada, slave owners were never a significant part of the population. In the States, especially in the south, slavery was so popular that it took much longer to remove than in Canada or England. I don't think Canadians try to cover up this history. Sadly, most Canadians aren't educated enough about Canadian history to even know there's a history of slavery to think about. So it's not some kind of scam, it's just ignorance.

Why does Canada try and trick itself into believing that there slavery history is sooooo much different than America's. When its 100% exactly the same. Canada = British empire.

@walkertexasranger33 the thing is the history of slavery is much more complex than what liberals give. they give one part saying whites enslaved africans. in fact the way the african slave trade started in the first place was the african dictators and kings of the time were taking political prisoners and either killing them or selling them to europeans themselves in exchange for weaponry. also the term slave comes from slavs, because whites were being persecuted during the same period of time.
