Fantastic! Even the deaf gentleman conveys the feel of a newyawka. He's right ... the facial expressions, the hands, these things give a newyawka away ... oi vey, the hands, every Italian tawks wid thea hands! - and yes, I'm mixing the cultures on purpose, just like NYC ... love it. Great job!

Ha! My boyfriend's from the midwest; he claims that half the time he doesn't understand me ~ and I'm from JERSEY, haw. IT's all just mostly mannerisms. New Yorker's are great, passionate, colorful people.

My MIL was very pleased that I am a brash New Yorker when her son got sick with a brain tumor and I strongarmed the hospital into admitting him. The best compliment I have ever received came from her: "New Yorkers might be loud, but they know how to shake the bush." Bet your ass.

Ha! Loved the woman who said "It's hard for me to understand ... people who aren't from New York." I think it's hard for them to understand us, too - and I'm not just talking about accent.
This made me so homesick and nostalgic, I may have to lie down for a bit (and call my BFF in 718).
