Here is stage one of my squid pole antenna as per instructions from VK7JJ - http://www.perite.com/vk7jj/squidpoles.html

Stage two is basically making up the 80 and 20 meter coils. I'm not yet licensed to work 20 meters so I'm in no hurry there but the 80 meter coil will be next on my list.

As it is seen here (shown without stand and ground radials) it SHOULD (fingers crossed) transmit with decent SWR on 40, 30 and 15 meters. We'll find out just how well it works in a few days when I get a chance to test it.

I'm hoping to take this baby out in the field when I go portable some time in February 2011.

Cheers.
Theo.

  • Thanks Leigh and Rob. Rob, the squid pole is the 9 meter version. I picked it up from one of the local clubs here.

  • Good stuff Theo. Is that a 6m or longer pole? I have a 6m one here that I want to make a vertical out of, mainly to have a play with listening to the 10m beacons, which are all generally vertically polarised. My main problem is I have no room for radials, so will feed it with a 9:1 UnUn and see how it goes! 73 - Rob VK2GOM
