    I understand what you're saying about the Colombian stereotypes, but the story was sympathetic, and didn't glamorize any of the negative elements.

    And, those "American way of life" plots you described have ALL been made. And I'm sure some of them won multiple awards. "Dances with Wolves" come to mind.

    this film was a revelation. i gagged at maria swallowing those packages.i swore at her not to do it.i held my breath at several parts with heart in mouth.i can't say about the ending apart from its whats inside that counts.
