Washington and Lincoln on Religion In the Obama Inauguration

George Washington and Abraham Lincoln explain how the American tradition, in line with the American Constitution, is to keep religion and government separate. Washington and Lincoln didn't have Christian preachers giving prayers at their inaugurations. They didn't add "so help me God" onto their Oaths of Office. If they didn't need to do that, neither does Barack Obama. That's why the lawsuit to stop the untraditional insertion of Christian religious rituals into the Inauguration is a good idea.

Is this person sincere? Look up Washington's second inaugural address. It's basically a religious sermon to the American people. I understand the point of view trying to be made here, but it's disingenuous to frame a couple of dead presidents who were publicly open about there faith as being opposed to public expressions of faith.

Washington [May 2, 1778, at Valley Forge] During his inauguration, as he took the oath as prescribed by the Constitution,but added several religious components to that official ceremony. disturbing... I couldn't watch the video but I fully agree with the description. The first six presidents where non religious and thats the way any government worth its salt should be...

Though Lincoln held religious activities in his personal time I don't think his actions were influenced by his personal convictions.
