This beautiful little gem of a movie is very near and dear to my heart. I play the pink cat, Campanella and I adapted the script for the film as well. It is a mystical meditation on existence and the afterlife from one of Japan's most famous poets, Kenji Miyazawa. He created the idea of a "coal sack" or black hole in the sky decades before the theoretical physicists in Copenhagen postulated the existence of one. If you can get a copy of this film, check it out!

  • Ah yes. The Night on the Galactic Railroad. One of the greats. As a fan of the old (Leiji Matsumoto for the win) my friend downloaded this an gave it to me as a present. The version was english and I must say I fell in love. This movie is a children's movie but the symbols and everything just makes it that one step better. The only issue is that young kids get bored through it and never get quite to the end. I been hunting the out-of-print for ages. But I still suggest to anyone to go watch it.

  • The US DVD edition has been discontinued but can still be purchased (at collector's prices) from Amazon, eBay et al. This film is still worth every penny, through its beautiful animation, deep thoughts, universal thinking and intriguing content. Plus the story it's based upon is a real Japanese classic.

  • This is the best animation film in the Japanese subcultual history. I want you to check this, if you like Japanimation. Thought it's difficult to understand.

  • Really want to see this it looks beautiful

  • Can you upload the English version of this movie, please?

  • Did anyone else know that this is what inspired galaxy express triple 9

  • This was such a lovely film, but it's so hard to find nowadays. Did anyone else notice the scene in Ghibli's Spirited Away where they sort of put out a tribute to this film? The one where Chihiro and No-Face are on the way to visit Zeneba.

  • Hmm... yet another one I should check out. thanks for uploading this. :)

  • This movie sounds interesting. If I can find it online (I haven't seen it in any stores, but if I'm lucky, I could find it in a thrift store), I'll give it a try.
