Yeah, I am aware.

Surprisingly though, all of my friends I know who want to be in the Police don't want to be in the armed unit.

It's not everyone who wants to join, some want to join the sky cops, some want to be traffic cops.. Such a wide range of things, so not everyone wants to join the armed unit.

@cpnstav kind of agree in one way,but the sentance these scumbags get does not balance out with the cost of the effort involved,even if they get a sentance of a few years most the time they dont even serve one third of it.if they get a sentance at all...if someone robs a bank of 10k how long would he get,so how is robbing a 10k car any different.the law needs to be much harder on repeat offenders,

to ..Someloke8895 Up to a point I may agree with some of what you say However the £3.5 million PLus for a copter . maintainance and 3 crews to catch a guy in a £600- nicked car or on a roof is not justifiable in my opinion YOu have dogs and radios and supposedly good eyesight. Copters are a waste of public Funds especially we are even charged for lease hours NOT FLOWN.We only got them because the Dutch didnt want them. Also £80K + cars Nothings faster than a radio.

@cpnstav Coppers on the beat need the chopper though. What if a suspect is hiding on a roof and the cops can't see him? What if he's in a wheelie bin at night, and the chopper's heat-cam spots him?

It's a catch 22, modern policing needs all these things, because everyone has adapted to the technology.

I agree we need more police on the streets and not at desks twiddling their thumbs over ASBOs, but removing the assets needed to police these days will cause major problems.

what an absolute waste of tax oayers money helicopters are.Using a 4 million quid cpter to chase a £1000 car plus untold amount of police cars has to be an abuse of ratepayers money.They have radios ,,,quicker than a copter !!!! and even when they dont fly we still have to pay for them Scrap them and get coppers back on the beat where they belong. It will save an average of £6 000 000 PA per county
