It's the noise of a distressed lion that's stuck in an enclosure that's way too small for him.

That's just the indoor exhibit. Chicago is hella cold in the winter, so it's actually nice for guests to have an indoor exhibit when the animals don't wanna go outside. The lion exhibit is actually really large. I've been there a bunch of times.

They are not trapped, this is at the chicago lincoln park zoo. they have full acesse to the HUGE outdoor area when its their turn. Lincoln park zoo is one the oldest zoos in america. so one yard is used for all cats in rotation daily, weather permitting. They also have acesses to the back. Although I do find this very very cruel. They still get enrichment out doors. a huge rock outside which looks like the lionking rock, is heated. so the cats can be out even in the cold.
