Beak Twisters

Some German tongue twisters (Zungenbrecher) that I initially found easy to say when getting it right didn't matter, but which, I'll admit, became a bit harder once I had to record them as proof.

Here I present takes three, seven, twentyfive, and two, respectively.


N.B. The pitch of the voice recording was raised to maintain the penguin persona, but was done so with Audacity, which does not increase playback speed - that would have been cheating.

My accent's hard to alter, but it's unlocalisable magic at least produces consistent exchanges on meeting new Brits.

Them: Really? You don't sound Welsh.

Me: Well what do I sound?

Them: Ummm. I don't know.

Rs, ws, and ls are a bit smudgy in my brain, making saying "Brautkleid" even alone surprising, "yellow lorry" overly-cerebral, and speedy renditions of "Real rear wheel" impossible.

But I take comfort in having no problems with Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwy­rndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Which, of course, means "breakfast" in Gaelic? Or is it the name of Wales's tallest mountain? Or its deepest lake? Or possibly its most obscure town?
