LBCC Art Gallery Presents "FOAM" March 10 - April 9, 2009

Foam features the work of Sky Burchard, Christoff Koon, Michael Barton Miller, Jason Rogenes, and Shirley Tse, in the Project Room: Bari Ziperstein. Gallery hours are: Mondays and Thursdays, 9:30AM to 4:00PM; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:30AM to 7:00PM. The show will close on Thursday April 9th.

In 1986, Shiro was telling Elizabeth Rose, I want you to make work so light that it would fly. He felt the heaviness of bronze and lead was against the times. Is there a relationship between the materials that artists use, and the time they live in, anymore? Does the state of the economy affect the materials they use? There doesnt seem to be such a relationship, only the need and choice of the artists.

This exhibition presents a handful of artists that use foam, a lightweight, yet fragile material. Some use the found, formed foam, and others purchase it, like any other material. There are all sorts of commercial use for foam, but here, the function is to take it to the level of art.
