The Ultimax 100, also known as the "Section Machine Gun" is a gas-operated automatic weapon (capable of fully automatic fire only) with a short-stroke gas piston operating system powered by ignited powder gases diverted from the barrel through a port in the gas block.

@Search4diabetescure I wouldn't think that if someone were emptying a mag at me with it. Plus, slower ROF means more ammo is conserved while being equally effective at suppression.

@humsupsex the reason why americans used different guns than this was because they wanted reliability and durability with guns.

Carried this weapon during my military conscription (2.5 years). They never issued us the drum mag, only the M16-style magazines (Ultimax 100 magazines have 2 extra holes on the top as compared to the M16, but other than that, they are the same). Fondest memory was trying to cut down a tree with it. Unfortunately I spent most of the time trying to keep the weapon clean, my platoon commander was pedantic about rust and carbon.

It is a beautiful light squad machine gun. The rival would be CETME AMELI, and the Belgian SAW. Personally, I like the Ultimax.
