WABC Eyewitness News Opening from 1988

And now for something different. A browse around the old TVARK pages produced this. It's an open to what I believe is a 6 PM Eyewitness News broadcast. I don't remember Bill Beutel and John Johnson being paired on any other newscast on WABC but the 6 PM one and Ernie Anastos was still doing the 11 PM newscast in 1988.

Presented in WABC's old presenter box style with the unseen Corey McPherrin and Storm Field. Beutel is not present for this broadcast and weekend anchor John Marler is in his chair. Veteran ABC announcer Ernie Anderson provides the introduction.

(Beutel looks like he's going to a funeral...no expression change at all.)

Corey McPherrin would leave WABC a few years later to become the studio host of ABC's College Football, a position he held until 1991. While at WABC, McPherrin also provided studio updates during ABC's Major League Baseball telecasts.
