Thanks for your interpretation. Here's as I see it: what you are obsessed with will be within your reach once you let it be what it is and go with the flow. The fish is beyond the monk's grasp. But once the monk lets go of his obsession to possess it and accepts the fish for what it is, he is carried away by the flow of time into an ultimately union with it :)

so in the end the monk is enlightened. Is that what happen in the end?

This short story is talking about understanding the truth. Its a metaphor. If our mind try to understand by force, the essence of truth will not understandable. Finally the mind surrender to travel with the truth without ay expectation, that really made the mind to understand the world of fact.

This animation meant a lots of great thinking. The monk and the fish is a metaphor. If we try to search the truth or try to catch the truth, that truth will not understandable. We must travel along with our mind without any strong expectation, finally the truth will dissolve in us. Its a great ZEN philosophy.
