This is a test launch of the R-77 (Nato codename AA-12 'Adder') which demonstrates the lethality of the missile design.

  • There are new AMRAAM designs with a maximum range of about 114 km.

  • While these are truly in design, BVR combat is basically non-existant in today's world. US pretty much rules the skies without competition. Still the F/A-22 version and B versions are more than enough to knock any plane out of the sky.

I doubt the new version of the Amraam will come to fruition.

  • Have you done your research on the MOAB? You can ask the Americans why they took the R-77's fin design.

  • @Loxleiev

wrong! is the other way.. BVR is the future..

we will see less and less close combats.. because of modern misiles

can do today. To take down enemies before they even had a chance to fight back..

  • @Loxleiev This was true 20 years ago. But electronics and propulsion have advance rapidly since then. Now you have more processing power in your digital wristwatch then was available to a combat aircrafts of the 70s.

  • @whatthehell81 BVR combat is useless, either it will miss or run out of power before it can hit anything, youre not targeting inmovile airplanes that keep their heading, even now the AMRAAM (AIM-120) its pointless, only for big airplanes with low manouverability cant avoid them,

long range missiles are on their last days i think, only cruise missiles will prevail in the future, and better short range missiles, like a GPS guided missile =D

  • It doesn't have a very long burn time.

  • ITS DESIGN IS AWESOME

  • best air to air missle in the world

  • what's the song ?

  • @eighenvalue

lattice fin design bleeds "less" not more energy. the only time when a lattice fin design is inferior to a delta wing design like that on the AIM 120 is if the missile is cruising at subsonic or close to mach 1 speeds. thats why the R77 is known as a high speed amraam and has better turn rate, and higher energy to pursue its target during end game engagement

more furl and bigger engine hurt balistics because they also increase the overall geometry.

  • @eighenvalue

Actualy grid fins have all over better aerodynamics - aspecialy at supersonic - and by design they need smaller actuators

    Absolude advantage over plain wings
