Closing laps of the Victor Meldrew Trophy, race 1, Brands Hatch, November 2007. Car 23's (white XJS V12) driver is in dire physical trouble from fumes in the cockpit and slowing badly, camera is mounted in the nose of his chasing team-mate's 6 cylinder XJS as he tries to make the most of this rare opportunity! No sound, sorry!

  • man i wish i could do that with my xjs here all i have is highways to work with. going fast in straight line gets boring after a while

  • @DKLONGHORN Next time you're in the country, give us a call!

  • too bad there's no sound. we could appreciate the v12 roar :D

which do you suppose is better for racing the heavy v12 with all the torque or a nice aj6 4.0 with high lift cams and improved plenum chambers (basically a twr converted engine)?

  • @nuclhead Well, given I race a 4 litre, guess which gets my vote! Car in this vid is chasing a V12 with a stock AJ16. The 4 litre engines are being taken to about 400bhp by the modified boys, but not using TWR stuff, you're into bespoke inlets for that. The cars have their respective strengths and weaknesses. The awesome torque of the big 12s is compromised against the better balance of the 6s. Give me a highly-tuned 6 any day!

  • @Jag4litre And how would an aj6/16 be modified to produce such power? They're stil atmospheric engines right? So basically it's down to track conditions I'd imagine. A straight dry track would probably favor a v12 but give it some corners and the 6 would come out on top. What's the power output of the v12s then? I assume they're modified as well

  • @nuclhead That's one of those big, big questions! It's like asking whether blondes or brunettes are better, nobody's ever going to agree! For UK club circuit racing, I personally favour the highly-tuned 6, but get to the longer more open track, and big-power V12s ought to rule. As for modifications, email me if you want much info, we're developing exactly such a car at the moment.

  • Advertisment: The ultimate place for a manual V12 gearbox conversion. Over 100 units supplied, and other parts sold visit: Simplyperformance . com based in South UK. Thanks.

  • I couldn't begin to tell you what it is. The car was driven by a bloke called Ken Lark, and he was the fastest thing out there that weekend, the direction change on that thing on the sticky tyres was amazing, we were on the Toyo TR1 road tyre and he walked all over us!

  • That Corrardo I see you guys beating...I imagine that's the VR6 model?
