Her cries of anguish as her baby is kept from her are just unbearable. And for humans to helpthe baby to his feet and walk him AWAY from his Mom is just disgusting. The chaining is not only beyond cruel, it is absurd. Put some nice thick hay on the floor, leave, and close the gate. That's ALL you have to do. The elephant mom will do the rest! I think she had5 babies, so she went through this hell numerous times. What a horrible life.

She wouldn't choose to give birth on a slippery concrete floor in the wild would she ? She wouldn't have to stand in one position all the way through labour in the wild would she ? She wouldn't have the fear of the instruments that have tortured her all her life being held by her tormentors in the wild would she ? Hang your heads in shame you scum ! And what have you created a new life for anyway ? another innocent soul to torture for god knows how many year using your usual barbaric methods?

Elephants didn't drop from the sky yesterday. They've perfected their birth for hundreds of thousands of years; it's indeed coded in the mother's very genes as to what to do, in the various situations. Being CHAINED while giving birth is NOT one of the things these very intelligent animals know or like. Anyone with decent brain power knows that. If the Ringling folks were afraid of getting hurt by her, stay out of her way! Humans need to stop behaving like total savages against other animals.

ha of course it cuts off in the end when riccardo was reunited with his mom. This was a very successful and routine elephant birth. I have witnessed a Riddle Elephant Sanctuary and Toledo Zoo elephant births and both chained their elephants to protect the keepers and baby elephant!

a mother will often kick at the baby to get it breathing, not to harm it at all. and then it will help it stand. look how she's trying to reach her baby :(
