The Amazonian rainforest and the lives of the Asháninka rainforest communities in Peru are at risk. The planned Pakitzapango hydroelectric dam will affect 10,000 indigenous rainforest people and rare and endangered wildlife species, as over 250,000 acres of rainforest is lost to flooding. The dam is being planned without informing local communities -- even though their lands are legally protected. The Rainforest Foundation UK is working with Central Ashaninka del Rio Ene (CARE), our Peruvian partner organisation on a peaceful campaign based on legal rights to BAN THE DAM. But we need your support. The Rainforest Foundation UK is a relatively small charity making a big difference to rainforest communities such as the Asháninka, whose lands and livelihoods are threatened with destruction.
