This only a suggestion* Don't focus in Live view mode. It only happens in Live View mode and I have the Step up to this 1.8. If that happens to you when you use the viewfinder than that is a problem.

it could be that the camera is to close to what ever its shooting because a few people have said you need to be quite far back to focus quick
