We took a ride from Owosso to Alma and back on the Great Lakes Central Railroad during TrainFestival on Saturday, July 25th. Pere Marquette 2-8-4 #1225 was to pull this excursion.
Unfortunately, she was sidelined early Friday morning due to a failing boiler tube.
For the 2nd time in excursion history, Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 #765, a sister to #1225, stepped in as a worthy substitute (the 1st when the 765 and 1225 teamed up for the 1991 NRHS Convention; #1225 had a mechanical problem during a doubleheaded photo runby in Thurmond, WV.) and hauled the train to Alma. She put on a great show as she stormed up the GLC main with track speed rated at 40 MPH.
See the video response for Part 2, featuring the return trip, as well as 3 spectacular photo runbys at Ithaca!
1:59, there we are at the crossing signal. From the track going left, Jonathan sitting, tall Spenser, Mary in pink and Tim working cam on tripod.
