@DrIvoRobotnick I'm still learning about what happened but it seems like the people who began AIM and who started the occupation were making a statement, not so much "f u" the government, but to promote awareness and pride in all Native cultures. And to bring the tribes closer together. Bad things did happen on the island, and they will no matter where you live or who you are but the main point was believed to be recognized. They had a lot of support from people of many different backgrounds.:)

I dont Understand it.
Some doucuments make it seem like AIM movents were mostly infighting and were not much more than a big F U to the government.
The other side say that the world was changed for the better.
I don't know what accually happened can anybody give me a straight answer, becides the damn propaganda on both sides?

For all the extremely ignorant people posting on this page I would suggest you pull yourself away from your latest installment of American Idol or whatever other crap you watch and sit down and watch the documentary film Alcatraz Is Not An Island so you can begin to erase the decades of brainwashing that you endured through American public school system in regards to the true history of this country.

American Indians on Alcatraz gave their lives for their freedom, what have you done for yours? Nothing! That's what I thought. You disgust me.
