'one must be at least civil to someone who is willing to take on that mantle of responsibility and public scrutiny'
Must one? Why? So they can feel like they aren't pissing off millions of people at once?
That's idiotic. McCain deserved what he got. He's trying to swindle his way to the White House so he can put the treasury in the hands of his buddies.

Yeah. These students should only exercise their constitutional rights in the proper location, outside the range of the public officials they detest. Your political acumen is pretty impressive, Gilgothes.

It invigorated and energized young people to get involved in civic discourse.

(continued) I have seen similar things reversed with McCain supporters verbally abusing Obama supporters. Overall, people need to realize that this will not be the last election of all time and that after Nov. 4 it will be over and the people who they were rather derogatory to will still be around for the next couple of years whereas the election will be over. So be passionate about your views, but at least be cordial and civil when disagreeing with someone who doesn't share them.

(continued) The person arguing for Obama wasn't very well informed on either candidate and made some rather ridiculous claims which I disproved and they became rather livid and said such things as "how dare you call yourself open minded and be willing to even consider such a conservative, bigoted, underqualified, etc. piece of shit for the running of our sacred office of President." They have yet to speak to me again. Also some people who do support McCain are being verbally abused for it.

'"embarrased to go to school with a bunch of N****r lovers"'
Now I never even mentioned that, and I do agree with you about the focusing upon such scum who do. As far as why I even bothered commenting, I dunno why I did. I guess I'm just tired of seeing supporters of both sides completely tearing into the other. It's getting rather nasty, I was having a political debate with someone and was playing devil's advocate and arguing McCain's policies.

I am embarassed by the people who go to BW who have the audacity to write comments on here claiming they are "embarrased to go to school with a bunch of N****r lovers" I say we focus on the disrespect of those them instead. thanks.

well all I can say to that is we were exercising our rights as civilians.. it was a protest.. and as far as protests are concerned that was the most peaceful of any I've seen in papers or on the news. What would you like us to say to him? " dear mr. mccain i really disagree with you?" and since you don't seem to care for either candidate what do you care about what we're saying?
