An Open Letter to President Obama from an Artist In Montana

The video pretty much says it all. I don't get political, but I'm being affected by what our government is doing to this country, and, well I just had to vent.

First of all I admire your sculpture. You are a terrific artist. But I think you have a poor understanding of economics. The rich will be rich no matter how much Obama taxes them. When Eisenhower was president the top marginal rate was around 90% and the rich people were buying as many sculptures as they are now. So do you want to give up social security, medicare, and the entire social safety net? That is exactly what will happen if the top tax rates don't become more reasonable..

I love you, DL; you know this. I favorite and 'like' everything you do. But I have to reply unfavorably to this one. Yes, it is absolutely true, I believe, that only the super-rich can afford your works. The sad part is that, somehow, you've failed to appreciate that in a country with more equitable standing (a lower "Gini Coefficient"), you would have MORE people buying your work, not just a tiny collection of hyper-rich in a sea of poor like you and me.

@WaterfrontConsultant The ones who talk up the game are usually the ones doing the least, unless they gain politically from it. Look at the extremly green house Bush lives in compaired to Gore's. Look at the lefts protests and see what they leave behind.. Beck just had one and the grounds were clean when they were done.. Well anyway, I admire what you do. God bless your efforst.
