Maya Plisetskaya is seen here dancing one of Aurora's variations from 'The Sleeping Beauty' (1963).

The setting for the performance seems to be a nightclub so I'm guessing the performance is within a movie.

  • you cut the part where the guy on the table says "hey, it's Maya Plisetskaya" or something :P

  • hi theamazingsoter - and the bit where she does a tap dance warm up - LOL

  • She is wonderful! Not many like this anymore :(

  • hi BalletBabyBoy - yes, so strong both in technique and dramatic stage presence

  • When you are a Queen, it's not easy being a Princess. But, who cares? It's MAYA!!!

  • hi Qbendanny

i agree - i had unexpected reservations when i first saw the footage but as you rightly say 'who cares'!

partly it was nostalgically reliving seeing maya in milan in 'anna karenina' with godonov - in her 50's then i think

see all

  • hey lucylives08

you are right - the film is from the 1960s - 1963

i was lucky enough as a kid to see Plisetskaya dancing in Milan with Alexander Goudonov and the Bolshoi Ballet in 'Anna Karenina' - a ballet made for her

great to hear from a Plisetskaya enthusiast!
