I am not bashing anyone's beliefs but i am just saying that even in the trailer, it says BASED on the novel. The definition of based is a starting point or point of departure. The movie version is based on the novel but doesnt necessarily have to be exact.

If you view it with a blank slate, you can see that the images and acting are quite remarkable. The scenes, the color, everything is beautiful. you just need to watch it without the book in mind. Give that a try

Again that is just an opinion

No, a movie doesn't have to follow a book exactly but it should bear some resemblance to it. This movie completely perverted the very essence of the book. This was as if some director adapted Moby Dick to the screen and made it into a homosexual love triangle between Ishmael, Ahab and Queequeg. This was a book that dealt with redemption and Catholic ideas of Divine Grace in a positive way. The movie bashes Catholicism and promotes homosexuality. Totally dishonest and ugly movie.

This new movie can not compare to the old one you mentioned where both leading actors gave truly heartbreaking performances. That one was awesome. This one is cheap, sentimental modern crap.

The movie was so mesmerizing. I stayed up all night just to watch it on PBS.

If you want to really see Brideshead Revisited watch the Granada TV production with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. It is word for word from the book. The music and the narration and the story meld into a beautiful synthesis, a 2 hour movie cannot achieve this at all.
