Insomnia by Babelshack (http://www.myspace.com/babelshack)

footage from The Man Who Laughs - 1928

The film clearly inspired Bob Kane, the creator of Batman, for the character of the Joker. Plot summary from Imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0019130/

Gwynplaine, son of Lord Clancharlie, has a permanent smile carved on his face by the King, in revenge for Gwynplaine's father's treachery. Gwynplaine is adopted by a travelling showman and becomes a popular idol. He falls in love with the blind Dea. The king dies, and his evil jester tries to destroy or corrupt Gwynplaine.

  • I think they took more than just his appearance when creating The Joker. Had a really serious Joker vibe to it...

  • @Zonker66 I agree. It's worth tracking down the film - it's very creepy. The Bat - (from 1926) is probably where Bob Kane got the rest of his ideas for Batman.
