This was a proper aggression against Southern States of Italy which costed hundreds of thousands of lifes and deposed the legitimate royal family of the "Kingdom of the Two Sicilies". After the defeat a few thousand former Borbonic soldiers of the Civitella del Tronto garrison joined the CSA army, the confederate flag under which they fought is still kept in Civitella del Tronto.
