Ice is less dense than vegetable oil so it floats. As it absorbs heat (melts) it becomes liquid water which is more dense than the oil. It makes for a relaxing lava lamp effect.

  • Could yOu mix water & a fluorescent die, freeze it, and do this in the dark under a black light?
