SuperFacial by Ryan Hill with Rob Parrish is a looped video projection shown at Civilian Art Projects, Washington DC in May 2010. It was part of a larger solo exhibition of the same title investigating themes of faciality, glamour and spectacle. In particular, this piece was interested in how ideas of beauty are constructed across gender and class, how they rely on the machines of commerce, and are used as a form of escape in times of economic downturn.
Final Cut Pro and After Effects were used along with Chroma Key and Video Compositing to create a procession of images that link footage from Berkeley's Golddiggers of 1933, a vintage Alka Seltzer commercial, and old industrials with small performances with everyday objects shot in the artist's bedroom. Kid & Khan produced the soundtrack which was integrated with Ginger Rogers singing the original "We're in the Money" both in English and Pig Latin.
